Strutture Edili Serie

In the summer of 2023 a trip took me to Tehran / Iran, where all the while I observed something that the city had in common with my experience in Istanbul. Despite being one of the oldest places and cultures of humanity and one of the richest cultures that contributed to great currents of human thought such as Rumi and Sufism, the building development model was the same and identical to the developing cities of the Middle East. Violent, invasive and visually impactful considering the beautiful mountain right behind it. I was fascinated by the glorious and rich past of the Shah's royal geometries and palaces, by the Mosques that celebrated the study of frequencies that reconnected the soul to its Creator, but it made me reflect on how after so many goals achieved in a glorious past, today's building model was so empty of thought and disharmonious. I took some pictures, they portrayed these large structures of innocent pipes that were found in every corner of the city, especially in the northern part where the wealth and the richest society resided.

All these huge structures drew tunnels and disharmonious corners, a sign of progress and economic growth that continued frenetically to the detriment of the quality of the city's air and the beauty that this place had once defined through the large city parks, public green areas and beautiful trees surrounded by canals for collecting rainwater, which tried in vain in the current days to cross all the streets of the city cleaning it from the dust of pollution and new buildings. Upon my return to Istanbul, through this experience and the observation of the photos, I laid the foundations for the creation of a new sculptural series that somehow described this experience of mine, and it was at that moment that “Strutture Edili” was born, a series of metal works that were later exhibited in solo exhibitions that were organized for me throughout the year 2024.

Nuove Tecniche Edili Serie

For years, my place of refuge and rest has been located a few kilometers from Florence. Among the hills and oak forests of Mugello, a few kilometers from the city center. Here, after stressful rhythms and seasons in the big city of Istanbul, I reconnect with body and soul to the slow rhythms of Mother Nature. My Mother's stories, the healthy food and the air that smells of moss, the mornings with the awakening through the singing of birds and the source of the river behind the house are the most effective medicine for the toxic experience of the megalopolis. In the spring of 2024, returning after about a year of absence in Italy, I noticed that a system of metal scaffolding had been installed on the building where my Mother has lived for years. Work was underway to insulate the facades of the building to optimize its energy efficiency, in an area that reaches freezing temperatures in the winter.

I stopped in front of a pile of materials that were waste from this insulation process, I thought and observed that material a lot and how much technological research was behind it to have created it, all this to allow the life of many people to improve in climatic aspects especially with regards to the change of season and the upheaval of the seasons in Italy. I then decided since those materials were discarded and unusable by the workers who were continuing the insulation work of the building, to imagine what other use they could have. I tried to give a new life to these wastes and since this material most of the time disappears in the application processes of construction, I imagined it as part of a new series of sculptures that paid homage to its characteristics of lightness, insulation and fireproofing. This whole process of imagination through the development and experimentation of geometries that reminded me of my abstract style and an idea of new brutalism since the materials always belong to construction and building. Then came the first series of sculptures “Nuove Tecniche Edili” which I began to produce between Florence and Istanbul and to exhibit in well-known galleries and artistic events.

Metropolis Serie

My artistic education based on the Renaissance arts, my studies inevitably traced back to Humanism and to the deep knowledge of the Man-Nature connection, have allowed my vision to have a deep and clear sense of the whole. In a time when people believed in the extraordinary intellectual and executive abilities of the human being, where the three main arts Sculpture Painting and Architecture created the main bases of the existence of new societies, and there I laid the starting point of all my work as a contemporary artist.

In 2012 I decided after a very inspiring journey that the place I would call home would be Istanbul. Needless to say how strong was the spiritual bond that I immediately perceived with this place. I walked in all its corners, saw many of the signs left by my ancestors, the other cultures that shaped it until arriving at what it is now.I decided to live on the banks of the Golden Horn in the Fatih district, probably the most populated historical area ever, the area where emperors, foreigners and travelers had set foot and built their residences over the centuries.

Years go by, my creative activity merges with the collaborations of artisans, blacksmiths, carpenters, restorers, the thirst for knowledge grows at the same level. The stories of communities of the past fascinate me and with them the most positive things that have led to the glorious growth of Istanbul. 2020 arrives and we are all forced to wait locked in our homes left alone by the systems of societies, to see what the media says, is the most dangerous epidemic of modern times of humanity. It is the best time for me to finally dedicate myself to the collection of my thoughts, experiences, criticisms and proposals to build a new way of living, to finally lay the foundations for the new design of societies, cities, environments and places to live and I do it through the language of which art is master and guardian.

Metropolis speaks of violated ecosystems, cities that deliberately make trees, forests or public parks disappear by replacing them with concrete, the new phenomena of gentrification of entire communities and weak social groups, the new urban towers that design the new skylines of cities, the same language used in the Middle Ages, city plans that do not respect linear urban planning criteria and that create chaos and disorder in urban mobility as well as energy waste and inevitable production of pollution, overcrowding of people and new ways of perceiving this bizarre way that many call living.

All topics collected in an artistic series of sculptures that describes today's times and the difficulties that today almost half of the world's human population is forced to passively endure in every corner of the world. Through this human and artistic analysis, future design bases are laid, there are no excuses today if these basic and fundamental design rules are omitted, it is done consciously, and artists like me are required to document the present time and as guardians of humanity and the environment have the moral duty to defend it and show that they are opposed to it.

From 2021 to today, the sculptures of the Metropolis series have been protagonists in important artistic exhibitions in historic and institutional buildings, have already become part of important public and private collections and have laid the foundations for an interesting open intellectual dialogue to give greater awareness and responsibility by creating important collaborations with architecture and design studios.
